Frist Gala

Fall / 2020
Kind: Print design

Described as the Parisian Belle Époque (Beautiful Era), The late 19th and early 20th centuries in Paris were known for extravagance and excess, a celebration of growth and advancement. Paris 1900: City of Entertainment exhibits the influence of this growth on the art surrounding this time period, and serves as the backdrop for the annual Gala held at the Frist Art Museum. From the delicate borders to the intricate ornaments, each element of the print design is meant to encompass the beauty and over-the-top nature of the city at the turn of the century. Decorative illustrations used on the border of the invitations highlight the elegance and excess that was so characteristic of the time. The decorative elements are accompanied by bursts of gold leaf, referencing the name that Paris is so often called - the City of Light. The design as a whole is done in hopes of displaying the lavishness of the city to those in attendance.
